Testing StackExchange: Ask, Receive, Review
Resources for talented testers are far and few, but when one is discovered, it is fully appreciated. Think Yahoo! Answers for QA (or StackOverflow for developers) and you have Testing.StackExchange.com, a cornucopia of relevant questions and answers for that ever evolving software testing world we live in. An open community, where testers can post a variety of questions, from technical tips to procedural concepts, are all listed here, in order of activity.
Questions are answered, voted on by the community, and are tracked by their respective number of views, but the cool factor comes in the form of badges. Like anyone out there who has ever spent some of their valuable time in the wonderful World of Warcraft knows the full benefit of gaining reputation. The Testing.StackExchange offers this same addictive flair with level increases through usage and badges that you can earn by being a hyperactive participant. Consider it a friendly rivalry and a value added form of competition that benefits everyone in need of QA knowledge not commonly available on other similar web sites.
Other familiar amenities are the tag listings, user listings, and tabs for hot and featured questions. There is also a list of unanswered questions for those who want to gain some street cred as they build their base on the site.
Testing. StackExchange is promising and resourceful for those who need answers to pressing questions that you often find mixed throughout Google and Yahoo! group sites and email exchanges. However, Testing.StackExchange is a little different. It’s different because it’s more dynamic, and it’s simple, and it has the potential to be the single source for this type of exchange as more users join the fray. I joined. Now I need to earn some rep and start posting a few questions…
