Becoming the Agile Test Manager [QA/agile/management]

Gregory S. Smith has provided a chapter from his book, Becoming Agile, which focuses on the skills needed by project manager who are new to the agile game.

The chapter is excellent for new project managers in smaller companies, since being agile is almost a given in these fast paced environments, and there is less overhead to dictate what process you take to get the job done.

From identifying the value of agile methodolgy, to demostrating the effort in homogenizing the team, Gregory S. Smith delves into technical means to satisfying the customer value within agile software development. The chapter he provides is open to interpretation for all types of mangers, and it’s an excellent primer for QA managers who want a leg up on how being agile can benefit their team.

As I get closer to my goal of becoming a ScrumMaster, I’ve really taken to heart some of his encouragment and motivation from quotes like this…

“I find it hard to describe Agile team culture in a sentence, but I can easily describe it with several words. The words that come to mind are: collaborative, open, passionate, courageous, honest, light-hearted, driven, synchronized, customer focused, funny, responsible, innovative, and successful.”

It’s a long chapter, but you can finish it over lunch. It’s worth it.
